In a first-of-its-kind attempt to enable the residents of Agra and its neighboring regions with greater access to quality neurosurgical facilities, Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon today launched a specialized Neurosurgery Out-Patient Department (OPD) unit in Agra. The OPD clinic, positioned as a Center of Excellence, will be open on 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month is partnered with Dr. Shivani Chaturvedi, Obstretics and Gynecologist Super Specialty Centre, Agra. The department will be headed by Dr (Prof.) Sumit Sinha, Director Neurosurgery, Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon.

Dr. (Prof.) V S Mehta, Chairman, Department of Neurosurgery,Paras Hospitals Gurgaon said, “In the coming few months at Agra, we, Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon, intent to spread the awareness among the masses about Road safety, Accident Prevention and Information about other neurosurgical problems by organizing various public awareness lectures/programs. Brain Tumor is one of the common cause of the death among people across country. Early diagnosis and treatment of Brain tumors certainly helps in reducing the patient suffering or prolonging patient survival.”

The IMA Agra Chapter led by Dr. R.S.Kapoor (President), Dr. Mukesh Goyal (Secretary), Dr. Ravi Pachori, (Presidnet Elect) and Dr. Ashok Mittal, support the cause of Paras Hospitals to ensure public awareness lectures and CME programs in the coming next month’s to ensure better delivery of healthcare from a ensure better delivery of healthcare from a neurological perspective.

Dr Sumit Sinha, Director Neurosurgery, Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon says, “Neurological disorders are becoming an ever increasing problem for the society now days. The people have to be aware about the certain symptoms like headache, vomiting, visual disturbances, epileptic feats, unconsciousness, unexplained weakness of any part, speech problems, behavioral changes; and such symptoms should be brought to notice of neurological/neurosurgeon.

Prof. Sumit Sinha commented that India is the trauma capital of the world and efforts are being taken across country to make public awareness about reducing the trauma and better efficient management of head injured people.

Neuro Trauma society of India has formulated the guidelines for the prevention and treatment of head injury. Dr. (Prof.) Sumit Sinha is the core committee member for the guideline development program in India.These guideline are India centric and aim to lay down the foundation of prevention, pre hospital care, treatment and rehabilitation of head injury, in a more evidence based and scientific manner.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), millions of people worldwide are affected by neurological disorders. More than 6 million people die every year because of brain stroke, and over 80% of these deaths take place in low- and middle-income countries like India. More than 50 million people have epilepsy worldwide, and epilepsy or seizure disorders are said to be the fourth most common neurological disorder affecting people of all ages. It is estimated that globally 47.5 million people are living with dementia with 7.7 million new cases every year; Alzheimer’s disease is the most common risk factor leading to dementia and may contribute to 60–70% of cases.
